the room at the top of the house
A STAND BY THEATRE COMPANY PRODUCTION
Josh finds the outside world a fascinating and frightening place. At a time when he is most vulnerable, a room of forgotten things quickly becomes the perfect place for him to escape reality. His family make a desperate attempt to help him realise there is more to life than photos on a shelf and postcards under the door.
This is an honest and uplifting show about fear and the impact our decisions have on those we care about, told through mesmerising movement, poetic text and visual inventiveness.
"Thoughtful and fresh, the young company’s well structured show has a subtly delivered but somewhat simple message of mental health awareness." THE SCOTSMAN
★★★★ "This is a slick and thoughtful piece, using the performers' skill and the medium of physical theatre to highlight an issue that will affect as many as one in three people in their lifetimes." FRINGE GURU

the man whose memories fell out
A Stand By Theatre Company Production
He doesn't remember their wedding day.
He doesn't remember their daughter's age.
He doesn't remember when they got caught in the rain.
But she does...
They are told he is suffering from encephalitis. The virus has made holes in his brain and his memories are falling out. In an attempt to stop him forgetting, she reminds him of the life they shared together.
under starry skies
A Shooting Fish Theatre Company Production
The year is 1945 and things are slowly returning to the way they used to be.
The way things have always been.
But too much has changed, and the people of Gainsborough are looking forward, not back.
Under Starry Skies is a celebration of Gainsborough and a play that unearths hidden stories from a post-war Britain.
Told by an ensemble of young performers, this performance allows us to see the past through a new perspective.
The piece was inspired by a visit to the Heritage Centre and uses objects from their collection to inspire storytelling.
Devised by an ensemble of young participants.
